I'm excited to be leading this great quintet paying homage to music I grew up listening to and playing along with.  I spent five months listening to the entire Jazz Messengers Discography selecting music for this residency, and I am incredibly excited to share our versions of these great songs with you.  

In between the various gigs and performances I've had, I've also spent a lot of this year in the recording studio working on a number of different records and recording projects, and getting to play all sorts of music.  The picture below is from Mighty Fine Productions in Denver recording an upcoming Gospel record.  Also in the can: a big band record, modern jazz quintet record, indie folk record, organ trio EP, soul/singer songwriter record, and many more that are coming up in the next few months.  I absolutely love recording, and am so thankful I've had so many opportunities to lay down some tracks in the studio this year.    

Just got home from a wonderful trip with the Monty Alexander Trio through France.  We played at two festivals one in Biarritz, the other in Orleans.  I can't imagine it gets any better than this!

Had a blast with Shawn Williams, Seth Lewis, Kenyon Brenner and Jeff Jenkins at Nocturne.  Open Source is a group put together by Seth and Kenyon, and there's definitely a palpable energy and chemistry within the group.  

Last week I traveled back to Minnesota to do a record with my friend Jonathan Campbell's new project The Northtet.  We recorded at Creation Studios in Minneapolis, which was a humbling experience to see who had worked there over the years.  The band features Jonathan's wonderful compositions and the musicianship of Kate and Josh Skinner, Jonathan, and one of our collective soul heroes Clay Jenkins.  Lots of great music was made and I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the record in early 2018.  

I've had a ball playing Tom Amend and Matt Smiley and some of my favorite Denver drummer cohorts Paul Romaine, Dru Heller, and Alejandro Castano at Nocturne paying tribute to the Money Jungle session with Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach.

I've had a great time playing and developing this wonderful music every week at Nocturne.  We still have three weeks left in our residency, so please come down to Nocturne for one or more of the last Friday nights in August!  

I've had an absolute blast playing with Ben Markley and Matt Smiley as part of the Ben Markley Trio, performing his original music at Nocturne Jazz Club.  We will be concluding this residency with a live recording session, among the first at Nocturne, so I hope you can come join us on Wednesday August 9th.
