Hello everybody! I hope you had a good February, I can't believe it's already March next week! I just finished up my grad school audition tour and am feeling really good to be done with it! It's crazy because I've been preparing for it for over two years, and now don't have to worry about it anymore! I did auditions at McGill in Montreal, UNT in Denton Texas, UNC in Greely Colorado, U of M in Miami Florida, and sent in a video to USC in Los Angeles CA.
I was super impressed with all of the schools. I'm very happy with the choices that I selected, and would be PUMPED to have the privilege to go to any of them. Now it's just a waiting game but I should hear back soon from most of the school in a matter of weeks. However I have heard that I got into UNT! So that is very exciting! Ed Soph is a pretty incredible teacher, so I'm pretty happy about that. Mary and I need to make a choice by April 1st in order for her to get set up with her student teaching, because she will student teach wherever I go to Grad School. But all in all it was a really fun set of trips. I'm especially thankful because my family was able to come with me to some of the places, which made it more special for sure!!
Besides that a lot of exciting things are happening with me! I start a full time sub position at Crestview Academy in a couple weeks. There I will be teaching K-8 music which includes general music, as well as band and choir. I'm pretty excited, the teacher there now has made it super easy for me and has been doing some really cool things with their program already. I'm really excited to learn a lot, but also share my passion with a wide range of students.
Also on the docket, I started a jazz gig at a new store in Eau Claire (new location at least) called Obsession Chocolates! If you live in Eau Claire and haven't stopped in to this store make sure you do. Their food is very affordable, but some of the best in Eau Claire. Not to mention they have a pretty amazing selection of delicious chocolates and other goodies!! Very high quality for an affordable price!! I'll be playing here EVERY WEDNESDAY (with the exception of ash Wednesday) with my good friends Pianist Josh Gallagher and Bassist Andy Detra. If you haven't heard Josh play yet, please do yourself a favor and stop by on Wednesday (you can also check out the "Windows" video on my listen/watch page for a preview).
Benefits: Great Music, Great Venue, Amazing Food and Drinks, ALL AGES, no cover whatsoever. No reason not to come check it out!
If you're a musician, please bring your horn and come sit in! It's a casual thing, and will be a fun deal for sure!!
Menomonie Winter Drumline is in full swing. They're doing great, it's such a pleasure to work with them. They are a really motivated hardworking group of people, and they always exceed my expectations. Not to mention they're just really fun and drumline is a fun activity!
The Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra just had another one of their concerts too! We did a history of the Big Band concert playing everything from Fletcher Henderson to Maria Schneider! The group played great and it was just a really fun program. The next concert on the docket is featuring local vocalists, which should also be a blast. There's a lot of great singers in the area and a lot of great music. It's really been a humbling experience directing that group, luckily they make it easy to direct because they are such talented musicians! If you haven't already check out a video of us performing with guest artist Wayne Bergeron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2IwsmT6WAQ
Other than that not much else is new besides the pandemonium happening in Wisconsin, which everyo.
